The products must also come from a legally compliant source and undergo third-party testing for CBD levels and contaminants.<\/p>\n<p>Shares of cannabis conglomerates were down following the announcement, likely from worries of new compeititon from international companies.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"107232174\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/\" type=\"security\">Trulieve\u2019s\u00a0<\/a>stock finished the day down about 23%,\u00a0<a id=\"107297747\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/\" type=\"security\">Green Thumb Industries<\/a>\u00a0fell more than 16% and\u00a0<span id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-8\" class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/TLRY\/\">Tilray Brands<\/a><span id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><\/button><\/span><\/span>\u00a0fell about about 4% as of close on Thursday. This is only the beginning,\u201d Ben Kovler, founder and CEO of Green Thumb, said in a statement to CNBC.<\/p>\n<div class=\"MidResponsive-midResponsiveContainer\">\n<div id=\"MidResponsive-1\" class=\"\" data-module=\"mps-slot\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The reclassification is viewed by many analysts as a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/11\/01\/cannabis-stock-market-trump-marijuana.html\">financial lifeline<\/a>\u00a0for the cannabis industry. The move exempts companies from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/uscode\/text\/26\/280E\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IRS Code Section 280E<\/a>, allowing them to deduct standard expenses like rent and payroll for the first time.
