Members of the Colorado Springs City Council have abandoned efforts to overturn the outcomes of two November marijuana initiatives. <\/p>\n
A District Court judge ruled against the city and the state Supreme Court refused to consider any further appeals. As a result, licensed dispensaries in the city can begin selling adult-use cannabis products on April 14th. <\/p>\n
The court\u2019s ruling upholds voters\u2019 election-day decision to approve Ballot Measure 300, which allows adult-use retail marijuana sales within the city\u2019s limits. Voters that same day also rejected a separate ballot measure (Question 2D) that sought to explicitly ban such activities.<\/p>\n
Rather than accept those outcomes, councilmembers moved to place a third ballot question before voters in a special April 1st election. The court rejected that effort as unconstitutional.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe city has been willing to do anything and everything to overturn the will of the voters, who overwhelmingly supported Question 300,\u201d said Adam Gillard, Executive Director for the El Paso County Progressive Veterans. Gillard was among those who sued the city following the council\u2019s attempt to challenge the election result. \u201cIt\u2019s time for the City Council to move on and start representing their constituents instead of standing in their way.\u201d<\/p>\n
